A horrifying incident has emerged from Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, where a madrasa student was allegedly tied up and brutally beaten by a teacher for consuming two segments of oranges left over from an iftar meal. The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the local community. The victim, a madrasa student, a minor, was admitted to the 250-bed Jhenaidah District Sadar Hospital on Wednesday (March 5). The accused teacher, Hafez Imran Howladar, has been absconding since the incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident, stating, “The victim has been hospitalized, and we have launched an investigation. Legal action will be taken swiftly.”

Details of the Incident
The incident began on Monday when a donor organized an iftar meal for the children at the Mathurapur Ideal Orphanage. After the iftar, some oranges remained uneaten. The student reportedly ate two segments of the leftover oranges. Upon learning of this, Hafez Imran Howladar, a teacher at the orphanage, allegedly tied up the student and beat him mercilessly on Wednesday morning.

Family members of the victim revealed that the incident occurred inside the orphanage premises. The student sustained visible injuries, with red marks covering his body from the beating. Fellow students corroborated the account, describing the severity of the assault. Following the incident, local residents gathered at the orphanage, expressing their anger and demanding justice for the victim.

Teacher’s Escape and Administrative Action
Immediately after the incident, Hafez Imran Howladar fled the orphanage. The orphanage management committee held an emergency meeting upon learning of the incident. Committee President Md. Alauddin stated, “Teacher Imran has been suspended from his duties. We are treating this matter with utmost seriousness, and a case has been filed with the police by the victim’s family.”

OC Abdullah Al Mamun added, “We are investigating the incident thoroughly. The accused will be brought to justice.”

Local and Human Rights Reactions
The incident has drawn strong condemnation from local residents, who argue that institutions like orphanages should ensure the safety and human rights of children. Such acts of violence pose a severe threat to the physical and mental well-being of minors.

Human rights organizations have also called for an immediate investigation into the matter. They emphasize that violence against children is unacceptable under any circumstances and that those responsible must face exemplary punishment.
