Police from the Kadamtoli Police Station in the capital have arrested a 65-year-old man in connection with a horrific crime. The accused allegedly lured a five-year-old girl with chocolates and biscuits before raping her in an abandoned factory in Shyampur’s Balur Math area.
According to Kadamtoli Police Station sources, the victim’s mother lives in a rented house in Kadamtoli. On April 25, she took her daughter to sort through discarded plastic scraps at Minhaj’s closed factory on Road No. 9 in Shyampur’s Balur Math. While the girl was playing nearby, the accused, Yusuf Ali Patwari, reportedly enticed her with chocolates and biscuits, took her to the third floor of the factory, and raped her.
When locals heard the girl’s screams, they rushed to the scene, but Yusuf Ali attempted to flee. Two individuals—Shafiqul Islam Shahin and an unidentified accomplice—allegedly helped him escape.
Following the incident, the victim’s mother, with the help of locals, detained Shafiqul and handed him over to Kadamtoli Police. Police filed a case and launched an investigation. Using intelligence and technology, law enforcement arrested Yusuf Ali from Basabo in the early hours of April 29.
After his arrest, Yusuf Ali was produced before the court, where he gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. However, his unidentified accomplice remains at large, and police are continuing their search.
Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the ongoing investigation.
