Madrasa Teacher Arrested

In a horrifying incident in Dhamrai’s Roail Union, a local madrasa teacher has been arrested on charges of raping a third-grade student. Police detained the accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act following a formal complaint.

On Monday (May 5), police arrested Md. Jubayer Ahamad (23), a teacher at the Talimul Quran Madrasa in Khararchar, Roail Union. Jubayer, a resident of Sonargaon’s Balua Dighirpar in Narayanganj, allegedly committed the crime late Sunday night (May 4).

According to police and the victim’s family, around 2:30 AM, Jubayer woke the child—who was staying at the madrasa’s residential facility—and took him to his private quarters. There, he forcibly removed the boy’s clothes and raped him. The next morning, the child returned home and disclosed the assault to his mother, prompting the family to file a formal complaint at Dhamrai Police Station.

Acting on the mother’s written complaint, police swiftly raided the madrasa and arrested Jubayer. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Monirul Islam confirmed, “After verifying the allegations, we arrested the accused. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. He will be produced before the court.”

The incident has sparked widespread anger and concern among locals, who are demanding swift justice for the heinous crime. Residents have called for stricter measures to ensure child safety and secure environments in educational institutions.

Police sources indicate that the accused will be presented in court on Tuesday (May 6). Child rights organizations have also pledged to monitor the investigation closely. Given the sensitivity of the case, proceedings may be fast-tracked in a special tribunal.

The case has reignited debates over child protection in Bangladesh, particularly in residential madrasas. Experts emphasize the urgent need for stronger monitoring and safeguarding mechanisms to prevent such abuses in educational settings.
