A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a private bank’s ATM booth in Sripur Upazila, Gazipur. The accused, Mohammad Liton Mia (40), worked as a security guard at the same booth. Police swiftly arrested him following the incident, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik of Sripur Police Station.
Details of the Incident
The Girl(victim), employed at a local garment factory for a monthly wage of 6,000 BDT, frequently visited the Dutch-Bangla Bank ATM booth to withdraw money. There, she became acquainted with Liton, the security guard.
Liton allegedly lured her with the promise of a higher-paying job (12,000 BDT) at a nearby spinning mill. On June 15 (Sunday), at around 6:00 AM, he called the girl’s father, asking him to send her to the ATM booth for a “job interview.”
The Brutal Assault
When the girl arrived, Liton took her to a small room inside the ATM booth, claiming she would meet a senior official from the mill. After keeping her confined for nearly four hours, he allegedly threatened to kill her and then raped her.
After the assault, the girl was sent home. On her way back, she broke down and informed her father about the horrific incident.
Police Action & Arrest
The victim’s father filed a rape case at Sripur Police Station the same day. Initially, Liton went into hiding, but police tracked him down using technological surveillance.
On June 16 (Monday) at 10:00 PM, he was arrested from Ansar Road in Sripur Municipality. Liton, a resident of Dubail village in Gafargaon, Mymensingh, was employed by a private security firm, ‘Fast Solution Limited’, and assigned to guard the ATM booth. Liton was produced before the court on June 17 (Tuesday)
