Widespread uproar has erupted over the alleged rape of a Hindu woman in Baherchar Pachkitta village under Ramchandrapur South Union of Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla district. The allegation has been made against a man named Fazor Ali. The incident took place on the night of Thursday (June 26), and after a video related to the incident spread on social media, it sparked intense reactions both locally and online. The following day, Friday (June 27), the victim herself filed a rape case at the Muradnagar Police Station.
The accused in the case, Fazor Ali (38), is the son of Shahid Mia from the same village. According to local sources, Fazor Ali has developed communication with BNP activists over the past few months and has been introducing himself as a union-level party leader.
According to the statement of the victim, she came to her father’s house from her husband’s home in Homna upazila about 15 days ago. Between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM on Thursday night, when her parents were outside, accused Fazor Ali came to her house and asked her to open the door. When she refused to do so, Fazor Ali broke the door and entered the house and raped her.
According to eyewitnesses and neighbors, they rushed to the spot after hearing the victim’s screams. The victim’s aunt, Shworshoti Barman, said:
“A religious puja of our Hindu community was going on in the neighboring house. I came out of the house to attend the puja when I heard noises from the next house. I got scared and ran to the puja event and brought people. Then we found the door broken and rescued the victim with everyone’s help.”
Local resident Sojib also confirmed the incident:
“Around 10:30 PM, the victim’s aunt came and informed us that something was happening in the neighboring house. We all went there and found the door broken. Entering the room, we saw Fazor Ali raping her. Then we rescued the victim from there. Some people recorded the incident on video.”
Several more locals stated that although Fazor Ali claims to be politically active, there are multiple allegations of misconduct against him in the area.
The victim’s uncle, Nokul Barman, said:
“He broke the door of my niece’s room and raped her. Now we are feeling very insecure. If today he can rape someone in my house, tomorrow it could be someone else in our family. We want justice. We want protection.”
The victim stated that her husband has been abroad for several years and she is the mother of two children. She also said:
“Our family knew Fazor Ali through financial dealings. Based on that relationship, he came to our house.”
Regarding the investigation and legal developments, the Officer-in-Charge of Muradnagar Police Station, Zahidur Rahman, said:
“The victim herself has filed a case. We are conducting raids to arrest the accused Fazor Ali. Two police teams are working to locate him. The medical test of the victim has also been completed.”
He further said:
“Legal action will also be taken against those who recorded and shared the video of the incident on social media. Recording and broadcasting such events is a criminal offense and cannot be tolerated in any way.”
As of the time of writing this report, accused Fazor Ali remains absconding.
