Hindu Carpenter in Tungipara Faces Backlash After Facebook Account Hacked to Spread Anti-Islam Posts: Police Investigating

টুঙ্গিপাড়ায় হিন্দু Carpenter in Tungipara
Mithun Biswas, a 40-year-old Hindu carpenter from Tarail village in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj, has found himself in trouble after anti-Islamic and provocative posts began surfacing from his hacked Facebook account. Despite having submitted his Android mobile phone to the local police station six months ago, his Facebook profile has continued to share inflammatory content, leaving him in fear and distress.

Mithun shared that about a year ago, he bought an Android phone out of curiosity and created a Facebook account. Not long after, his account was hacked, and unknown individuals began posting religiously provocative content using his identity. Alarmed by this, he informed the local UNO and respected members of the community. Following their advice, he filed a General Diary (GD) at Tungipara police station on September 14, 2024. He also surrendered his mobile phone to the police and switched to using a basic mobile device based on the recommendation of a former ward member.

Fresh Wave of Provocative Posts

Just three days after Eid-ul-Fitr, new inflammatory posts began appearing once again from his Facebook account. Local residents began questioning Mithun about the posts, which left him terrified. He filed another GD at the police station. Mithun maintains his innocence, stating that he is an ordinary man and suspects he is being framed. He has called for the perpetrators behind the posts to be identified and punished.

Reactions from the Local Community

Mizan Shikder, a former member of the local Union Parishad, vouched for Mithun’s character. He said, “Mithun is a simple person with limited education who works as a carpenter. After the earlier incident, we handed over his phone to the police. But even now, someone is using his name to post inciting content. He has been proven innocent. The real culprits spreading religious hatred must be found and brought to justice.”

Police Statement

Sub-Inspector Akram Hossain of Tungipara Police Station confirmed that Mithun’s Android phone has been in police custody for several months. Still, provocative posts continue to appear from his Facebook profile. He acknowledged that Mithun has filed two GDs, and the matter is under active investigation.

Officer-in-Charge Khorshed Alam added, “We have Mithun’s phone, yet the posts continue. Our investigation suggests that a malicious group may be trying to frame him. We are working to identify and take action against those responsible.”

Conclusion

This incident has sparked concern in the local area. The misuse of a hacked Facebook account to post anti-Islam content under the name of an innocent Hindu carpenter threatens communal harmony. Authorities are investigating the case, and efforts are underway to identify and punish those involved in this disturbing act.
