A nine-year-old street child fell victim to a horrific act of violence behind Mohakhali Cancer Hospital in Dhaka. The brutal incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2025, in the capital’s Mohakhali area. According to police and hospital sources, the child was rescued in critical condition and admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Rafiqul Islam of Banani Police Station stated that around 10:30 PM, local residents reported hearing a child crying and noticed bleeding, prompting them to inform the police. Officers arrived at the scene and rescued the severely injured child, who was then taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After initial treatment, the child was admitted to the OCC.
Dr. Tayeba Sultana, the acting coordinator of the OCC, reported that the child’s forensic examination was completed on Tuesday morning, along with other relevant medical tests. She said, “Preliminary evidence suggests sexual assault, but a definitive conclusion can only be made after receiving the full lab report.”
Initial police investigations reveal that the child lived on the streets in Banani, Dhaka, with their family originally from Muktagacha Upazila in Mymensingh district. Authorities are attempting to locate the child’s family. The victim told police that an unknown man lured them behind the hospital in Mohakhali on Monday night and raped them. The child did not recognize the perpetrator but claimed they could identify him if seen again.
SI Rafiqul Islam added, “A case is being filed at Banani Police Station regarding the incident. We have inspected the crime scene, collected evidence, and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspect.”
He further stated, “The child’s condition is now stable, and they are receiving treatment at the OCC. Police are searching for the family, and preparations are being made to take further action with the assistance of social service organizations.”
