In a shocking incident in Fulchhari Upazila, Gaibandha, local police have arrested 75-year-old Bisha Sheikh on allegations of raping a second-grade student. The arrest took place on Monday afternoon from Harichandipur village in Fulchhari Upazila.
Bisha Sheikh is the son of late Hossen Munshi, also known as Khoshar Mia, from Harichandipur village, Gaibandha District. The alleged rape occurred around 2:00 PM on Monday. The incident was confirmed by Fulchhari Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Khondaker Hafizur Rahman.
According to OC Hafizur Rahman, the victim is a second-grade student at a local madrasa. Bisha Sheikh allegedly lured the child with the promise of corn and took her to a secluded area, where he reportedly raped her. The incident came to light immediately, and the victim’s family, along with local residents, informed the police. Law enforcement officials swiftly launched an operation, leading to Bisha Sheikh’s arrest.
During interrogation, Bisha Sheikh reportedly confessed to the crime. The victim’s family is in the process of filing a formal case at the police station. The child is currently under police protection, along with her parents. She will be sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital on Tuesday morning for a medical examination. Meanwhile, the accused will be sent to jail through a court order.
The incident has sparked outrage in the local community. Child rights and anti-violence against women organizations have demanded a thorough investigation and swift justice. Police have assured that they are following due legal procedures and conducting a detailed investigation into the matter.
