In Brahmanbaria’s Sarail Upazila, the bloodied body of a 9-year-old girl, Maimuna Akter Moyna, was discovered on the second floor of a mosque. There are allegations that Moyna was raped before being murdered.
Police recovered the lifeless body of the young girl Moyna from the rooftop of the local Hablipara Jame Mosque.
The incident came to light on Sunday, July 6, 2025, around 9 AM, when other children attending the mosque’s ‘maktab’ (Islamic learning center) noticed the body. Locals immediately informed the police, and a team from Sarail Police Station arrived at the scene to retrieve the body.
Day of Disappearance and Family Details
The child had gone out to play on Saturday afternoon (July 5) but never returned home. Her father, Abdur Razzak, is a migrant worker abroad, while her mother, Lipa Akter, resides locally. After evening prayers, the family and locals searched for her but found no trace. Later, a general diary (GD) was filed at the police station, and announcements were made over loudspeakers and social media about her disappearance.
Body Recovery and Initial Investigation
The next morning, students of the mosque’s ‘maktab’ went to the second floor to study Arabic and found Moyna’s body in a room. Police reported that her neck was wrapped with a scarf, and her face had been brutally disfigured with bricks. There were also signs of injuries on different parts of her body. Eyewitnesses stated that the child was found completely naked.
Police Statement and Investigation Progress
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Alam Chowdhury of Sarail Police Station said, “The body has been sent to Brahmanbaria District Hospital for autopsy. Evidence has been collected from the scene, and initial findings suggest signs of rape before murder.”
He added, “This appears to be a premeditated murder, and the body was likely left on the mosque’s second floor in an attempt to hide it.”
Interrogation and Possible Suspects
Following the incident, police detained the mosque’s imam, Hamidur Rahman, and the muezzin, Saidul Islam, for questioning. However, no formal charges have been filed against them yet.
A joint investigation is underway by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Sarail Police Station, and District Police.
