Shocking Surge in Sexual Violence: 4 Women and Children Raped in Chandpur, Rangpur, Jashore, and Rajshahi

In a series of deeply disturbing incidents, four separate cases of rape involving women and children have been reported in Chandpur, Rangpur, Jashore, and Rajshahi. Police have arrested two suspects in connection with these crimes, while efforts to apprehend the remaining accused are ongoing. These incidents have sparked outrage and concern among local communities and human rights organizations that work on women and children’s rights, highlighting the urgent need for stronger measures to protect vulnerable populations.

 

Chandpur: Housewife Raped While Visiting Relatives

In Chandpur’s Matlab Uttar Upazila, a 35-year-old housewife was allegedly raped while visiting her relatives. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday in the Durgapur Union of Matlab Uttar. According to police and local sources, the victim had gone to her relative’s home for a visit.

The victim reported that she was assaulted by a neighbor of her relative when she stepped outside to answer nature’s call. A case has been filed at Matlab Uttar Police Station against Mamun (45), son of the late Jaynal Abedin Miazi, and Abdul Majid Tutul (43), son of Mofiz Mridha, both from the same area. Police have arrested Tutul, an accomplice in the crime, but the main accused, Mamun, remains at large.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rabiul Haque of Matlab Uttar Police Station stated, “We have arrested Tutul, the accomplice. The primary accused, Mamun, is still fugitive, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing. The victim’s medical examination will be conducted on Wednesday.”

Jashore: 11-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped

In Jashore Sadar Upazila, an 11-year-old girl has accused a man of repeatedly raping her. The victim filed a complaint at Kotwali Police Station on Tuesday night, naming Abdur Rahman, son of Pear Ali from Churmanakati Uttarpara, as the perpetrator. Although a formal case has not yet been filed, police have launched an operation to arrest the accused.

The girl alleged that Abdur Rahman had been visiting her home for several days while her mother was out begging. He reportedly lured her with promises of buying her a mobile phone and sexually assaulted her multiple times. On March 15, he took her to a nearby closed shop and raped her again. The girl informed her mother the next day, who then sought help from local residents.

The victim’s mother claimed that Abdur Rahman’s wife threatened her family, warning them to leave the area if they filed a rape case.

Kotwali Police Station Inspector Kazi Babul Hossain said, “We have spoken to the girl. The family has not yet submitted a written complaint, but we have initiated an operation to arrest the accused.”

Rajshahi: College Student Raped Inside Shop

In Rajshahi’s Tanore Upazila, an 18-year-old college student was allegedly raped inside a shop. The incident occurred on Sunday at Chanduria Bazaar. The victim’s father filed a rape case at Tanore Police Station on Monday, naming Iqbal Hossain (28), his father Ansar Ali (65), and tea shop owner Abdul Malek (60) as the accused. All three are currently fugitive.

According to the case details, the victim was on her way to her teacher’s house to collect study materials when Iqbal, a local grocery shop owner, called her into his shop. Once inside, Malek closed the shop’s shutter, and Iqbal allegedly raped her. After the incident, the victim was released, and Iqbal’s father later visited her family, attempting to shift blame onto the victim.

Tanore Police Station’s Acting OC Afzal Hossain said, “A case has been filed, and we are conducting raids to arrest the accused. The victim has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital’s One Stop Crisis Center for a medical examination.”

Rangpur: Schoolgirl Raped on Her Way Home

In Rangpur’s Mithapukur Upazila, a 12-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped by a man named Shah Alam while returning home from school. The incident took place on Tuesday morning around 10:30 AM.

Police reported that Shah Alam abducted the girl from the road and took her to a nearby cornfield, where he assaulted her. When locals heard her screams, they rushed to the scene, prompting Shah Alam to flee. He was later arrested while attempting to escape wearing a burqa. A case has been filed at Mithapukur Police Station in connection with the incident.

Mithapukur Police Station Investigation Officer Rafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest and stated, “We have taken the accused into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.”
